Barry Miller had a big night for the AA Shreveport Captains in July 1994 - six RBI, three hits and one grand slam, The Shreveport Times wrote.

Afterward, he tried to explain his success.

"I felt extremely well," Miller told The Times. "I felt better than I've been feeling all year long. I had been waiting for a night like this to happen and it finally came."

Miller had enough nights like that to take his career to six pro seasons. He topped out at AAA.

Miller's career began in 1990, signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion University.

Miller started with the Giants at short-season Everett. He saw 38 games and hit .265. Miller knocked in a run on a first-inning double in a July game, what turned out to be the team's only hit, The Everett Daily Herald wrote.

"Everyone is still up," Miller told The Daily Herald afterward of the lack of other offense. "We were, and have been hitting the ball well . . . right at somebody."

Miller moved to single-A Clinton for 1991. He hit .244 in 117 games. He then made high-A San Jose in 1992 and AA Shreveport in 1993.

Miller homered in his first game at Shreveport, The Times wrote.

"I was down 0-2 in the count and I just wanted to put the ball in play," Miller told The Times. "He left it out over the plate."

Miller hit .288 in 129 games that year and .277 back at Shreveport in 1994. For 1995, he made AAA Phoenix. He saw 71 games there and hit .224. That season at Phoenix proved his last as a pro.
