Troy Vann played basketball, then baseball briefly as pro

Berkeley High School needed to hold on to advance in the playoffs and Troy Vann sealed the deal, The Oakland Tribune wrote.

As this February 1985 game wound down, Vann hit four critical free throws in the final 1:02 of  play to give his team the win, The Tribune wrote.

Vann went on from there to play basketball in college. He also went on to play another sport professionally, baseball. His baseball career proved brief, just two seasons, both in rookie ball.

Vann's pro baseball career began in 1989, taken by the Red Sox in the 24th round of the draft out of the City College of San Francisco. He went there out of Berkeley High.

With Berkeley's baseball team, Vann hit a bases-loaded single in an April 1985 game. Back on the basketball court in February 1986, Vann scored 40 points in a Berkeley win.

He then moved on to play basketball at San Francisco, participating in a December 1987 game.

He started with the Red Sox in 1989 in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He saw 27 games, playing mostly outfield. He hit .190.

Vann then returned to the GCL for 1990. He saw eight games there and went 5 for 26. That season marked his last as a pro.
