Tim Mitchell went from Culver City to pros, saw 4 seasons

Culver City High's Tim Mitchell had a big game in this April 1989 contest.

Mitchell went three for five while knocking in two runs, The Los Angeles Times wrote.

Mitchell played well enough at Culver City to make the pros out of high school. His pro career ended up seeing four seasons. He played them in rookie and independent ball.

Mitchell's career began that year in 1989, taken by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the draft out of Culver City.

At Culver City in 1987, Mitchell hit 10 home runs as a sophomore. He had a run-scoring single in a March 1988 game.

In April 1989, The Times called him Culver City's "power hitter," as he was hitting .444, with three home runs and 11 RBI.

He started with the Red Sox in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He played in 29 games and hit .205. He then returned for 1990, but saw just three games and went 0 for 7.

Mitchell then isn't recorded as playing again until 1995, when he's listed as signing with independent Saskatoon. He played five games and went 2 for 17.

He returned to the field for 1996 with independent Altoona. He saw 19 final games there and hit .245 to end his career.
