Jose Marin used glove over 3 pro seasons, made high-A
Lynchburg Red Sox Jose Marin used his glove to get his team - and his pitcher - going in this June 1992 game, The Lynchburg News and Advance wrote.
Playing at shortstop, Marin dove to his right to get the final out of the first inning, The News and Advance wrote. His pitcher Pete Estrada took notice.
"That little line drive that Marin caught really pumped me up," Estrada told The News and Advance.
Marin ultimately used his glove over three pro seasons. He topped out at high-A.
Marin's career began in 1990, signed by the Red Sox as a free agent out of his native Venezuela.
Marin started with the Red Sox in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He saw 15 games and hit .226.
He moved to short-season Elmira for 1991. Going into that season, The Elmira Star-Gazette noted Marin needed "to make better contact, but should develop."
That July, he picked up two hits and two RBI in a game. He hit .213 in 22 games on the year.
For 1992, he moved to high-A Lynchburg. His manager Buddy Bailey called him possibly the team's best fielder to start that season. He saw 46 games and hit .132, including a 2 for 45 slump early in the year. That season marked his last as a pro.
