Rookie Kingsport kept the lead in this July 1992 game, responding each time Johnson City scored, including with the help of catcher Steve Steele, The Kingsport Times-News wrote.

Steele responded for Kingsport in the sixth inning with a leadoff home run, The Times-News wrote.

"Every time they got close, we came fighting back," Kingsport teammate Jeff Kiraly told The Times-News afterward.

Steele hit that home run in his third season as a pro. It also marked his last. He played all three campaigns in rookie ball.

Steele's career began in 1990, taken by the Mets in the 20th round of the draft out of Millikan High School in Long Beach, California. Steele was also credited as Steven Steele.

Steele started with the Mets in the rookie Gulf Coast League and at rookie Kingsport. He saw 15 games in the GCL and two at Kingsport. He knocked in a run on a single in a July GCL game. He went 2 for 4 in another GCL game that month. He went 16 for 49 between them.

Steele returned to the GCL for all of 1991. He hit .110 in 28 games. He then played 1992 back at Kingsport. He threw out a runner in his first start at catcher there in 1992. He got into 21 games overall and hit .188. That season proved his last as a pro.
