Danilo Mompres started strong, saw 5 seasons, single-A
New Mets farmhand Danilo Mompres got off to a good start in June 1989, according to The Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
Mompres picked up three hits in this mid-June game, The Herald-Tribune wrote.
Mompres was able to keep it up enough to see five pro seasons, but not enough to move up far. He topped out at single-A.
Mompres' career began that year in 1989, signed by the Mets as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic.
Mompres started with the Mets in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He got into 56 games and hit .239. Late that July, he went 2 for 5 in a game.
He returned to the GCL for 1990. He saw another 50 games, but hit .193. He did hit two home runs, one a grand slam in a July contest.
Mompres made short-season Pittsfield and single-A Columbia for 1991. He started with Pittsfield on a 5 for 15 clip. He ended with Pittsfield with a .265 average in 75 games.
He then played all of 1992 at Columbia and hit .214 in 108 games. He returned for five more games in 1993 to end his career.
