Todd Brown kept trying, signed with Yankees, saw 1 season

Todd Brown gave up his senior season at Mercer College, but then went to play semi-pro ball, his hometown Macon Telegraph wrote in June 1990.

Soon, he found himself playing in the minors with the Yankees, signed as a full pro, The Telegraph wrote.

"Good fighters get knocked down every once in a while," Brown told The Telegraph. "Great fighters get up. If you want something bad enough, you have to keep trying."

Brown made the pros, but his stay proved brief. He played that single season, entirely at high-A.

Brown's career began and ended that year in 1990, signed by the Yankees out of his native Georgia.

Brown started with the Yankees at high-A Fort Lauderdale. He knocked a two-run single in a June game, finishing 3 for 4 in the contest with four RBI. He then broke up a seventh-inning no-hitter with a single in a July game.

Overall, Brown got into 56 games for Fort Lauderdale. He picked up 36 hits, 16 RBI and three stolen bases. He hit .247. That season ended up being his only season as a pro.
