Sean Broderick had success on-field, saw single season
Broderick did it with the help of the World Famous Chicken, The Greensboro News and Record wrote.
"I had no idea he was going to ask me to marry him," his girlfriend-turned fiancée told The News and Record. "They had a box of flowers, and I thought he was just bringing me flowers. But the Chicken was carrying my ring."
While Broderick may have had on-field success that evening, he ended up not having enough of the in-game success. His career was limited to that one season at single-A Greensboro. He saw 31 games.
Broderick's career began and ended that year in 1990, signed by the Yankees as an undrafted free agent out of Rice University.
At Rice, Broderick picked up two doubles and a triple in a April 1989 game.
Broderick joined Greensboro in June 1990 out of extended spring training and was expected to bring experience to the club. He could play at either shortstop or second base.
He then went 0 for 5 in his debut, striking out twice. Later that month, he was credited with a "super catch" diving for a ball.
Broderick's only home run came in an early July game, a game-tying two-run shot.
He saw those 31 games overall, hit that one home run and had a .126 average to mark the extent of his career.
