Peninsula Pilots reliever Rod Poissant hurt his arm in the Carolina League all-star game in July 1990 and team trainer Allan Lovinger gave The Newport News Daily Press the details.

Poissant, Lovinger told The Daily News, had calcium deposits in his elbow and further tests were needed.

Lovinger served as trainer for the high-A Peninsula that year and the next. But his time in athletic training would be limited.

Lovinger instead has gone on to a career elsewhere, in real estate and other jobs.

Lovinger was named trainer at Peninsula in December 1989 out of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He was then slated to come back for a second season in 1991.

He them left training and went into nursing education, marketing and real estate.

In 2023, Lovinger is listed with a real estate firm in Las Vegas.
