Arias only made it into the fifth inning, giving up two runs in the third. He also allowed a runner on base with a fifth-inning error, a runner that would later score.
His Savannah Cardinals then picked him up and the team up. The single-A Cardinals went on to a 12-5 win over rival Fayetteville, according to The Fayetteville Observer.
Arias was in his second professional season that year. He went on to get into just one more. In his three professional seasons, he made it to single-A, but no higher.
Arias' career began, signed by the Cardinals as a free agent out of his native Dominican Republic.
He first hit the field in the United States in 1989, playing in the rookie Arizona League. He got into 19 games, starting seven that year. He went 4-3, with a 5.07 ERA. He also recorded 12 balks, still tied for the league record.
Arias started 1990 at Savannah. By the end of April, he had an 0-1 record and a 7.29 ERA. He got into 20 games, 11 starts overall at Savannah that year, ending with a 6.34 ERA.
He played the rest of the year at short-season Hamilton. In 10 outings, nine starts there, he had a better 3.95 ERA.
Arias played at three levels in 1991, two starts at Hamilton, seven outings at single-A Springfield and eight starts at rookie Johnson City. He went 4-9 overall, with a 4.81 ERA. It was his final season as a pro.
